Volvo has begun testing prototypes of its new truck, which is to integrate new engines that can run on liquefied gas, a technology (of methane in diesel) in heavy vehicles is revolutionary, when compared with traditional of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas).
Volvo currently can operate with 80% of biogas, and 20% biodiesel, with which emissions can eventually be reduced by up to 80%, compared with a conventional diesel truck technology. Vehicles with this technology are already operating in countries like Sweden, England and Thailand, all of them are based on Euro 5 diesel engines.
The vehicle is equipped with a mixture of methane and diesel at a ratio of 75-25, and have a range of 500 to 1000 km, depending on driving conditions. The methane gas (LMG, liquefied methane gas) is compressed and reduced volume, and presents a full line of innovation for transportation, as an alternative to petroleum fuels.
