Freightliner trucks have been in business since 1942. During the industrialization of America, there was little need for heavy vehicles the workhorses of the various construction projects carried out during this period. Despite a subsidiary of a German company, Daimler, Freightliner brand blockbuster sales experience in North America. Freightliner is the best selling class 8 trucks in the United States, surpassing all other manufacturers of heavy vehicles with annual revenues of more than thirty-two billion dollars.
Originally based in Salt Lake City, Utah, Freightliner Trucks was created by the company Consolidated Freightways. The idea behind the extension Freightways in the target market for heavy trucks occurred when workers could not traverse the rugged terrain of the western United States in its current heavy vehicles. Heavy trucks struggled to climb the hills and many workers could not carry the necessary materials to the key areas for road construction and other industrial projects.
Freightliner instantly became a classic name in heavy machinery, and has helped immensely in the formation of the United States as we know it today. When World War II began, Freightliner had to stop production as the military demanded that all available resources of the country. When production began again after the war, the company had to move to Portland, Oregon.
This was a necessary measure, as Freightliner had become the main product produced by Consolidated Freightways, and wanted the trucks were manufactured at its headquarters in Oregon. Unfortunately, the decade of 1980 brought many changes difficult for the heavy truck industry. Freightliner trucks were now deregulated and results in increased competition within the industry. It was for this reason that the Freightliner brand was sold to Daimler-Benz in 1981. Daimler realized that it was necessary to adapt to the changing marketplace and therefore created a new line of vehicles. Daimler would for heavy vehicles for the construction industry, but decided to produce more economical vehicles for the transport industry as well.
These new trucks work were an immediate success. They still had enough power to carry burdens, but they have increased the economy due to its smaller size. This meant that the truck was cheaper than the high-resistance, but could still carry almost the same amount. It was because of this decision Freightliner claims the title of best selling commercial trucks in the United States. Adaptation and competition from Daimler-Benz will continue to drive the Freightliner brand in the foreseeable future, with no end in sight.
