This first LNG Econic Mercedes truck used as a fuel-driven LNG – Liquefied Natural Gas will be used by the acquiring firm (Acotral, Interproveedor Mercadona) in principle for the transport of goods to the logistics base of the company, but was later incorporated an urban distribution network of chain supermarkets. The engine is a Mercedes Econic natural gas propellant especially organic. The engine of the Mercedes M 906 LAG tractor offers 279 hp and delivered, thanks to the supercharger, a torque of 1000 Nm, and is associated with a 6-speed automatic.
Mercedes-Benz first introduced a tractor Econic natural gas as a prototype two years ago, in autumn 2007, a model due to low low CO2 emissions, the absence of emissions, low noise and EEV approval, the tractor Mercedes Econic natural gas LNG became an ideal choice for distribution of tasks in areas with special requirements of environmental compatibility. The first units of Mercedes Econic GNL series began to deliver in 2009.
There are two different technologies available natural gas:
- CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) with a range of 350 km,
- LNG version LNG liquefied natural gas, with greater autonomy.
Since natural gas is liquefied by cooling to 161.5 degrees below zero, the resulting high energy density of LNG means greater autonomy for vehicles using it between 800 km and 1,000 km without refueling.
